I bet the other drugs are amphetamines. They do work, they used to sell them as diet pills in fact, then some valium to level you off for nightime. Back in the 50s not sure when they shut it down. As to the headline, it's clickbait, people see a false statement on the title and want to come onto the thread to correct it.
