man and to think the frase "dont feed the trolls" used to be popular like 2 decades ago, now people think they must respond to every comment and video that criticise them
I think it's because "feeding the trolls" in the 2000s meant arguing in comment sections or some Facebook page with zero benefit and almost no audience. Now that it's monetized and part of the spectacle, people can keep pulling the slot lever (Post button) hopping their opponent slips up and they can clip/screenshot it and go "See?! I told you he was ______" and try to leverage that into more internet fame.
Even if they don’t slip up, simply going to their page, watching the video, dropping a bunch of comments, all that makes the algorithm go “mmm yes much engagement push this content creator higher in the feed.” It’s why I just avoid reactionary content pages/channels, besides not giving me agita I know me going there and arguing with them just rewards them, regardless of how wrong they are.
