Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?
-
Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.
-
This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.
-
No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.
-
Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
FAQ
I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?

This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.
-
Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.
What can I post?
- Anything you think is relevant to the mission of this community. Things will evolve over time.
- Topics and things relevant to EM and POC.

Reddit is weirdly illiterate for being a completely text-based platform.
I’ve had too many instances where I’ll be discussing something and someone reads the first sentence and dismisses the entire rest of my comment based on that. It’s like you have to constantly type in hooks and clickbait filled with epic one-liners to move the discussion forward.
I see it everywhere online. YouTube, forums, Discord, etc. Doesn't matter. Chuds often start frothing at the mouth and post whatever buzzwords they think win the "argument" (it's an argument the same way a child whines their parents won't buy them a toy at the store is an "argument").
Not to mention, some people are so wrong it would take months of educating them to get a baseline where they can actually discuss the topic with you. Their lack of reading comprehension doesn't help. Example: the Destiny vs. Finkelstein "debate." Except that's every discussion everywhere online with liberals and reactionaries.
Holy shit, this is reminding me of this moment that lives rent-free in my head where I typed a whole-ass comment on Reddit explaining why "anti-white racism" is not a thing, and, in said comment, I specifically mentioned that acts of anti-white prejudice do happen, but such do not entail systemic harm and cannot be considered racism.
Despite this, some bozo responded to me by retelling this moment when some Black teenagers moved into their neighborhood and called them things like "whitey" and "cracker" as their sole "evidence" against my entire comment, thinking that we are automatically granting that anti-white prejudice "counts" as racism.
They basically are so caught-up in that semantic trap of believing that anti-white prejudice must be denoted a form of "racism" that they legitimately believed that my point was to argue that anti-white prejudice does not exist rather than arguing that it does exist but it is not "racism," despite my comment unequivocally saying otherwise.
Years ago, I stopped interacting with these people. They've had systemic prejudice explained to them, why trans women are women, how intersectionality works, why liberals aren't leftists, etc. and they double down on why those are all wrong. I can only conclude it's deliberate. They say the wrong things on purpose because they want to hurt people they don't like based on immutable characteristics. They will make any justifications to inflict harm on others while stealing their shit.
The best thing to do is talk more to the audience and ignore reactionaries who say such nonsense. The only replies those types get from me is insults telling them to fuck off.
Liberals and Chuds often make this mistake, where the only racism that exists are slurs and overt discrimination. They fundamentally do not understand the systemic definition or think systemically, everything is personal-individual and moralized.
That’s how you know it’s a human and not an LLM. LLM bots typically respond to the last thing you said or try to address everything point by point (but miss a few)
Blessed be illiteracy, it’s how you know you speak to a human in 2026
