Overview:
Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

Trump is the best thing to happen to the world economy at the expense of the USA. Give him a medal.
However, despite the media focus on Tesla, Peterbuilt has been selling electric trucks for 2 years now.
In 2022 my dad gave me his '63 Karmann Ghia, while getting it running I wanted to sell the motor and convert it to electrical. I let him talk me out of doing that. Really wish I had gone ahead with the conversion now. Since then my wife lost her 6 figure job and is making only slightly more than min wage, and I closed my business.
That Ghia is so light, it wouldn't need a heavy battery or motor.
I agree, but right now I have no funds to buy either.
Oh I got that, I am just lamenting the aborted project with you. I hope things look up for you soon.
I decided to look up some kits to electrify my Ghia, they are around $20k! And they change it from MERD to RWD.
Looking at the image on this page, that is AI right? Those batteries do not even fit in the frunk. https://cmvte.com/karmann-ghia-manual-electric-conversion-solution/
This one looks to be a bit more serious https://evwest.com/karmann-ghia-hyper-9-120v-26-5kw-ev-conversion-kit-ac-motor-regen-braking-1955-1974
The first one is definitely AI. It has real pictures at the bottom, but they look like from a VW and not a Ghia.
The second one mentions battery boxes not included. No idea how much they go for.
I never made it all the way to the bottom to see those pictures. Yeah that looks nothing like a ghia frunk, or engine compartment.
It's not a Karmann ghia and the batteries in that image don't even match the batteries they sell. Why would you put the batteries in the front? What the hell is even in that image? SLOP. Karmann GHIL
EVWest is a serious company, but $20K for 26kWhr battery? Maybe 100 miles of range
Yeah, that range for that price was very confusing to me. And it has an 8-hour charge time.
I know I can do it all for cheaper piecing everything together myself, but it is a daunting task.
I just looked that car up. That thing is SICK. I hope you get to electrify it eventually. It's beautiful. :)
It is and it clocks its 0-60 in a paltry 17 seconds!
34 screaming horses!
It was just an Italian body dropped on a VW Beetle frame.
The Peterbuilt has a 100 mile range. One look at the completely unchanged exterior makes it obvious why. Typical legacy automaker shit.
They make a few models. The 18 wheeler is 200 mile range. Verified, not Musk miles. Mid size trucks at 280 miles.

But dumbass North America needs to stop using 18 wheel trucks for quarter loads or a single piece of equipment and start using smaller trucks like most of Europe.
