You are trying to apply normal logic to virtuosically incompetent MAGAs. They never looked at it like they were putting Trump's life in danger, they were going to rally the entire nation behind Trump, after he was almost assassinated, and ride that to a wildly popular win on the election. Except the overwhelming response was irritation that we didn't get to see his head explode on national TV. Then it became immediately apparent that it was all a clumsy hoax that resulted in a murder, and they quickly buried it. Except when Trump tried to revive the sympathy vote by screaming at the debate about how he "got shot in the head!"
