How, after 30 years of mainstream internet, can anyone still still think pop-ups are a good idea? (lemmy.world)

I don't mind them that much when it's like, some authentication or payments thing

    As a web developer: I do.

    There was never a need to have things open in a new popup to begin with so having to have people disable their blocker just to perform some action is friction that should be motivating us developers to step back and say “why the hell am I doing this?”

    I’m of the opinion that popups should’ve never existed at the technical level in the first place.
