You need to know that though. I disclosed a suspension I didn’t need to and got a rejection letter from my dream school, which was super interested in me until after they called me to ask about it. The rejection was dated the same day as the phone call, so I’m pretty sure that’s it, because they’d already separately sent two people an hour and a half to sell me on the school.

The suspension was for going to breakfast with my carpool buddy on her first day back in school, after her grandfather died. On the way in, she started hyperventilating and saying she couldn’t go in that day and having her first experience with death, so we went to a diner instead. We got sandwiches and she talked about her grandfather for an hour, then she was calm enough to go into school. If we’d explained it to any of the adults in our lives, they’d have been fine with it, but we lied about it and got the minimum punishment for skipping school once it all came out (she folded). I didn’t realize that it wasn’t on my school record, so I included it on my college applications.

If I’d gone there, I probably wouldn’t have studied abroad, which later enabled me to immigrate to Germany, so I’m not too upset about it anymore, but it sucked at the time

Why the fuck would you ever narc on yourself?

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

I disclosed my history accurately because I am comfortable with my choices and if I lose out on something because of them, I can accept that.

I stay happy with myself that way, which is more valuable to me than a specific school.

[-] ToTheGraveMyLove@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago

There's zero advantage to ever do that, you can only be happy narcing on yourself?

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

There’s not zero advantage to honesty, my friend.

[-] ToTheGraveMyLove@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago

Did they ask you a question where you either had to narc on yourself or lie? Because voluntarily narcing on yourself isn't honesty, its stupidity.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

Of course they asked about suspensions and expulsions, I wasn’t just writing in “and then one time, I stole candy from the store…”

But no, I don’t really care about presenting a specific face to a specific audience. I engage in appropriate security around any information that isn’t mine to share or that could endanger a friend, but if I’m going to lose out on a school for being a supportive friend, I don’t want to go to that school.

I guess there was a benefit in identifying that that school was going to be full of people who do want to lie about their behavior for their own gain, which I’m not interested in.

[-] ToTheGraveMyLove@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago

I dunno man, the way you're talking made it sound like you just freely offered up that information. How the hell am I supposed to know? You do you, but you're doing yourself a disservice. Protecting yourself by omitting sensitive information doesn't hurt anyone.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

Well, it’s a college application, so of course it’s a question they ask. They also asked about my grades.

I’m not doing myself a disservice by being honest about my actions. To cover them up for my own gain is cowardly and makes the world a worse place, in my opinion.

[-] ToTheGraveMyLove@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago

Not admitting something is not covering it up.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

Whatever evasion someone might suggest feels chickenshit to me.

[-] ToTheGraveMyLove@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago

And narcing on yourself for some false sense of moral superiority feels cuckhold to me.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

I am actually into cuckqueaning!

And again, I’m not ashamed of myself.

Cuckholding is for men, cuckqueaning is for women.

[-] ToTheGraveMyLove@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Wat? Why does that concept need gender specific words? How is cuckhold not gender neutral? I don't understand 🤔

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

When I’m looking up porn, I’m fully uninterested in 90% of what comes up for cuckholding, so having a separate term is helpful.

[-] ToTheGraveMyLove@sh.itjust.works 1 points 12 hours ago

I don't approve of separate gendered words to convey the exact same concept, that's just silly, but I can see how it would be useful when looking up porn

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

It’s very useful for porn, but it’s also a different thing culturally. Cuckholding involves playing on people’s internalized toxic masculinity and often has really weird racial overtones or implications that a woman in a hetero partnership is property of the man.

Cuckqueaning involves playing on people’s internalized beauty standards and doesn’t really have the raceplay aspect.

It’s not like actor and actress, where it’s the same exact thing except for the gender.

[-] ToTheGraveMyLove@sh.itjust.works 1 points 12 hours ago

Does cuckhold porn ever take on those cuckquean traits, and vice versa? To me it just comes across as subgenres stemming from the same basic concept. Also, how does cuckqueaning play on beauty standards? I'm not following that description.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

It may, I’m not an expert, just an enthusiastic amateur. I don’t think it would really work very well, but porn isn’t exactly known for its continuity.

The insecurity at play under Cuckholding is that you’re not man enough, and under cuckqueaning it’s that you’re not attractive enough (roughly).

In real life, I wish I had to deal less with the side effects of being considered attractive (I’m normal looking, but that’s all that’s needed for creepy comments and more all over the place), so I enjoy playing off of that during sex.

[-] ToTheGraveMyLove@sh.itjust.works 1 points 12 hours ago

Gotcha, that makes more sense. So its just driven by insecurity, but the type of insecurity is the determining factor. I could see see scenarios where both variants could be applied to the opposite gender, but I think a lot of tastes, porn included, are algorithm driven these days so it seems unlikely you'd ever see something like that.

That conversation took a real left turn, but I learned something new so thank you for that. 😂

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Yes, though I would caution you about that level of reductiveness. I know men into Cuckholding and women into cuckqueaning and they’ve got relatively little in common personality-wise. They’re both founded on insecurity, but a kink for nuns and a kink for feet are both founded on a longing for the forbidden and they’re not the same.

Edit: do femme and masc hit you better than women and men?
