Tricky, this can be played in two ways by black:

rook threatens king.

  1. Qc5 Rc3+ 2. dxc3 b2 3. Qd4#

rook captures queen

  1. Qc5 Rc5 2. d4 Kd4 3. Bf6#

The first line there doesn't work I believe.

becauseQd4 is not checkmate - black can block the queens attack with d4+ (discovered check from the black bishop) and take the queen as a result
if I'm not mistaken.

The second line appears forced and is the same conclusion I came to.

You can't play d4+ as black at that point, because then white queen would be taking the king since she's on Qc5

Ah yea you are correct.

There is another line in which black doesn't move the rook and instead advances the B pawn too.
