Evtest will help you inspect mouse events and see what is causing the dropped drag. If the mouse events don't pan out, another avenue to check out would be focus rules in KDE. Essentially if your drags are crossing the borders of windows there might be some edge cases regarding focus-on-hover behavior or similar settings. Could always be the mouse, but easiest way to test that is to see if the mouse does the same on a different system
