It didn't have as satisfying an ending to the season as it would have if there wasn't a guarantee of second/third/fourth seasons, but I thought the first one was great, and I trust Vince Gilligan to follow through with the rest of it. His habit of making the main character not a good person is a great way of telling a story.
Carol isn't a paragon, but she didn't do anything evil unlike drug lord Walter, or Saul who helps him in the schemes. She just can be unlikable, and gave up after a month of isolation.
She did indirectly cause death of millions.
By doing something every human naturally does, that she's been trained for like 40 years to understand is harmless.
The fact that all of humany was PUT in a position where something normally harmless could kill them is NOT her fault.
