What are they even hoping to gain from this? Do they think harassing or harming a small child is going to cow people? Rather than throw a match on a puddle of gasoline?
Intimidation. Mess with ICE and not only will they shoot you, we'll terrorize your family afterward.
Feels like this needs to be tested. Many ICE agents cower to pressure from witness presence so hunting them and their families like they want to hunt the Good family will show them both sides of their argument.

To the contrary, I'm of the opinion that it's inevitable, but I think timing is going to be pretty important. Jumping the gun before there is enough investment in the cause could be catastrophic.

Then we've already lost. Convincing our neighbors and even our families that this is violent fascism at all is just getting us labeled as extremists or hysterical, or at the very least over- reactors. People are fully in denial here. It's hard when everyone on lemmy seems to think just because we can't get our neighbors to wake up, and we're not willing to get ourselves immediately killed via one man revolution that all Americans equally deserve this.

Absolutely they think it will stop people. Why do you think people like MTG and Walz are getting out of politics? It's not just because of the threats, it's because they truly believe those threats to be real.
It's really easy to tell someone to ignore threats and carry on, but most of us have never received a message telling you that they intend to murder your entire family, and these people get messages like that every day. All it takes is one insane MAGA, and we know there are lots of them.
Add to that the Conservative Propaganda Machine, and the enthusiastic willingness to use the government to fully oppress their political enemies, and it's easy to understand why most people would just want to slip away from modern American politics. It's not just toxic, it's legitimately dangerous. All it would take is one Tweet from the Maniac-In-Chief, and The Purge is on.
That is their goal, mass protests they can federalize the guard and or use milirmtary to put down, set precedents like using military equipment in the us. Basically to turn the country into israel and palestine.

Martial law by military and federalized national guard, armed and with fire at will orders, which is part of the party's plan, prez is a figurehead at this point, having lost his marbles, is VERY much different from what we have this year. Le is militarized but not like the military.
They are setting precedents on immigration where they enjoy the most support, to be used when they are fixing elections and otherwise putting down unrest that would threaten their one party state ruling by force. They are setting up fed goon squads to target protests too.
It only gets worse absent real muscular leadership in opposition with organized citizens behind them. Which we do not have. Scotus will not stop military rule, the insurrection act, etc when they have a halfway plausible to the rw sheep cause.
They already cancelled nationwide injunctions making the executive branch unstoppable in violating people en masse with no real check on them left. Do not expect they will not allow it.

What makes that "quite clear?" I'm genuinely asking. Declaring martial law is the next step in the project 2025 playbook. The fact that they haven't done it yet suggests they're waiting for riots. What do you know which suggests they could declare martial law at any time?

Correct. This is a news community. I'm not about to oppose articles of a political nature in a community where it actually belongs. I only go about "whining" about political posts in communities that either specifically have rules against political posts or ones that should have those rules.
