Even if they did, I usually interpret people's words, so when someone says "sitting at the table with a nazi makes you a nazi" it means to me "not fighting evil makes you complicit in that evil." If they mean it literally makes you a nazi, then they are wrong, but I usually assume people aren't saying things that are insane since everyone I have talked to when asked has said the 1st one. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 1 point 8 months ago* No one in this whole reply chain said that. I didn't claim anyone here did at any time, it is a well-known talking point for some people at some times that is frequently used in Nazi discussions on the television and internet and in person. I thought you knew that?!? We agree, it is insane and it's defended as literal all. the. time. I've ignored this for years, now I just go with it to an absurd degree. I am not being literal, just like the phrase shouldn't be literal. I think this is funny, I apologize if it's boring to you. permalink fedilink source parent

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 1 point 8 months ago No, all authoritarians are basically the same kind of asshole, and Tankies are pure authoritarians. And since the very first use of the terms left vs right, was a question of Authoritarianism vs Democracy, a question of unelected monarchy vs the power of the people. Only later were economic terms added, because Marx envisioned a truly democratic economy. And then Lenin betrayed the revolution, and then wrote about how betrayal of the revolution and establishment of a dictatorship was what Marx wanted. Lenin had the actual communists who won the November 1917 election arrested as traitors. If you are authoritarian, you are not of the left. Full stop. permalink fedilink source parent
[–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 5 points 8 months ago There used to be an entire instance of them called Exploding Heads. Pretty much every instance has defederated on them, so I don't know if that server is still alive. There's always more nazi servers being made to get around defederation, but they usually end up re-quarantined eventually permalink fedilink source parent

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago I refer to it as the tolerance pact. I'll tolerate the weird things you do, so long as they don't significantly affect the unwilling. In return, I expect you to tolerate the same from my weird stuff. There's also a slightly weaker addition where I will help stand up for those that are both under the pact and under attack. ("They came for...") Nazis and an alarming section of the political right are breaking that pact. They are void of protection by it. permalink fedilink source parent
