Yet another layer of structures to enforce capitalist realism and push austerity. Genuinely not sure how you push through all this besides just like, gaining absolute power and doing Socialism in One City which obviously isn't super viable.

Its easy to be hopeless in the US and want to aim low, for "achievable" goals, but ultimately I think this is the correct take.

You have to use the power and reach of your office to agitate. Imagine if this was a press release from the Chicago Mayor office. It's unfortunate it's not.

Very true. That would help. Maybe Mamdani will be better, though honestly I'm not confident in that.

If mamdani still has pull with DSA, they could leverage civil disorder in NYC into concessions. It's easy to take the state hierarchy of power wrt NYC as stone, but over 1/3 of the people in that state live in NYC.

but is the state not also to some extent at the mercy of the bond market? obviously they have more options though.

less so than NYC and the asks they're making are relatively small on the scale of the state budget
