I had been thinking about leaving Reddit for months before the API announcement came. I was tired of the toxic content, also tired of being drawn in by it.

I was never a power user, lurked a lot and only posted and commented in a few niche subs. I suppose I can still lurk, but so far I like it here at Lemmy.

My 3rd party app (RedReader) will apparently be allowed to stay for free (due to their high accesibility), but who knows how long that will last.

I deleted my account, didn't bother dealing with a comment deleting script. I just made my reasons very clear and hope they get the message.

Thanks to all who have been involved in creating these federated spaces!

i didn't delete my account or my comments. i figured it'd be better to fill the thousands of comments i've made over the last 14 years with stuff like "no more centralized social medias, join kbin/lemmy/fediverse" spam

a) makes old pages look more cluttered and spammy so reduces quality of reddit

b) still removes all the content i generated from reddit so they can no longer profit off of my labor

c) it seems they can roll back deletions but it's harder for them to roll back edits (citation needed)
