It was also apparently a song by The Ramones! I also thing it was referenced in The Simpsons (but what wasn't).

It unlocked the cheats. So you could enter other codes, like Scourge and Mitzi, which gave infinite health and all weapons (or the reverse).

I played that game SO much, and was so terrible at it.
