Software patents in general just slow down human progress. I could say the same about the patent and copyright system in general.

Also capitalism.

Do you mean to tell me that IP law exists only to gatekeep ideas and funnel wealth into an ever-shrinking number of hands? And maybe that the execution of those ideas is more important? You might be on to something...
