I like that quote that says "Something that we can learn from history books is that people can't learn from history books".
What we're seeing is people who do learn from history books being persecuted by those who don't because the latter are against knowledge, they love the ignorance (as in, ignoring the reality around them; in their minds, "don't see it = it doesn't exist").
That's why we're "seeing the future repeating the past" (to quote a verse from Cazuza's "O tempo não pára" song).
