Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

i really want to play lies of p, because even though i hate souls games and soulslikes i love the mc's design and i feel like I'll probably love the story as well. but will i love it enough to slog through that many game over screens...? we'll see
Honestly I see Lies of P as a better game to recommend first time souls players. Even more so than Elden Ring.
The overall structure is straightforward and has lots of quality of life improvements over the classic souls games. Quests are marked on your fast travel and you don’t really lock yourself out of any endings till the very end.
It also has two easy modes that not only change health and damage stats but also slow down animations to make the combat more accessible. And the added npc summon breaks the difficulty of the bosses completely.
You can basically respec infinitely once you hit a fairly early point in the game so you can easily play around with the weapons, which all have unique animations and abilities.
I would definitely recommend you give it a go.
