UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
Really?
They only arrested the people that stayed to get nicked. Within the hour of the protest less than 100 people were arrested. Most who were arrested never went to a police station, only to a gazebo where they were given bail not to partake in any Palestine related protests and then sent on their way. No charges etc so far.
The police themselves must feel like utter burks "arresting" people like that. It undermines their authority doing stuff like that. Like everyone they are photographed parking is a disabled space.
it's the begining of the end for this implementation of the law if these protests continue.
The problem is it kind of will put people off attending because a lot of people can't risk getting arrested. I'm pretty sure I would get fired even if the arrest was BS political nonsense.
Yes, this is how political intimation works. I'm pretty sure Yvette knows this.
It's always a mix at events like this. I heard from friends who were arrested that while some officers were violent, most people weren't cuffed (which is unusual for protests like this) and one arestee had this to say about their arrest:
