I always thought the belief was that he was ordered to kill himself, not that someone did it for him. Like Frank Pentangelie in godfather 2. Like a “kill yourself or everyone you love dies” type of thing
It really doesn't have to be from someone else. Lots of people kill themselves after being exposed as pedophiles and realizing that they're about to go to jail for it. He could have easily just bribed the guards to let him kill himself and anyone else involved would still have a vested interest in keeping evidence suppressed.

Except it wasn’t his first time being exposed for that, right?
Right. It wasn't like him getting locked up was a surprise. And if you're gonna off yourself, there are a lot of less painfull ways to do it (if you still have the opportunity) than hanging.
Convicted of state level crimes in Florida, but no federal crimes far as I remember.
