Move comes after rightwing Republican accuses New York City mayoral candidate of concealing support for ‘terrorism’

The Trump administration has raised the possibility of stripping Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic mayoral candidate for New York City, of his US citizenship as part of a crackdown against foreign-born citizens convicted of certain offences.

Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, appeared to pave the way for an investigation into Mamdani’s status after Andy Ogles, a rightwing Republican representative for Tennessee, called for his citizenship to be revoked on the grounds that he may have concealed his support for “terrorism” during the naturalization process.

Mamdani, 33, who was born in Uganda to ethnic Indian parents, became a US citizen in 2018 and has attracted widespread media attention – and controversy – over his vocal support for Palestinian rights.

No, we're about as far from OK as a country can get. The world needs to unite against us and muster the largest liberation force ever seen. And I mean the entire world literally every nation that can send warriors, send them. Germans, you have been where we are. You know, all too well, where this road leads. You could not turn yourselves back from it, and so you needed the help of 4 allied world powers. Now, one of those world powers is trudging down that same road you walked almost a century ago. And, I don't think we will be able to turn ourselves back, just as you could not.

Yeah, no, clean up your own mess. We have better things to do than rescue you from a mess you got yourselves into.

Is that what we said to you when it happened to you?

You mean WW2? I don't know if US propaganda covers this, but Europe was fighting the Nazis for like a year or two before the US entered. As I recall, you guys were staying out of it, with an isolationist stance, until you were attacked by the Japanese.

But could Germany have ever turned back from fascism on its own, without any help whatsoever? Let's say the entire continent just let the Nazis have their way and let Carl Schmitt and Leo Strauss play out their experimental new form of government out to its horrible logical conclusion. Could Germany ever come back from that? Could the world?

The world, yes. Germany, probably not. As the citizens got increasingly fed up with their governments antics, there would have been revolts and protests. These are Germans, not Americans, they hadn't been propagandized into submission beforehand.

True, but they had been riding a wave of Pan-Germanism prior to the Nazis. Germany had many diverse regions that didn't see each other as equals prior to the Weimar Republic.
