The right certainly uses this tactic against the left. Look at all their cringe viral memes, online propaganda targeting generation z/α, & trashy displays on their cars & clothing.

It's effective if it's combined with action. If democrats are, say, voting in enough numbers to help pass his spending bill, then this already overplayed tease is meaningless. Democrats don't even try to obstruct. The least they could do is make witty satire instead latching onto anything with a hint of virality, beating it to death, and then beating the corpse.

And these politicians you roll your eyes at? They’re not doing it for themselves. They’re calling out people like you, trying to shake you awake, trying to keep the pressure on. But instead of joining in, too many of you just sit back, waiting for someone else to fix it all.

I think those who are part of the government have a greater chance of effecting change.

Moreover, I live in a red state (currently), and although our TST congregation is small, we do quite a bit.

Or just bitching about how other people aren’t doing enough?
