The issue here is that you are conflating different roles because you seem to only be able to talk about American politics which has been a shit show for 160 years.

Getting rid of the monarchy will lead to becoming like America. The head of state will be a power vacuum that Russia, America, China and any other wacko would be wanting to fill. Also, a president "leeches" as much (if not more) than our monarch.
