That's about $1.50 in 1990 dollars. The problem isn't the price point, it's that income to buy these things hasn't kept up. Quality is a better argument, they certainly give less compared to what we could buy, regardless of cost. The only thing they have going for them is being everywhere and recognizable.

...but a double cheeseburger used to be 99 cents, up until the late 00s; like basically until 2010 where I live. A mcdouble was this 'you can still get two patties for a buck' idea but with the removal of one slice of cheese. The fact that it's trajectory is now headed for $4+ in 15 years, or 400%, is a problem. And the quality has fallen, yeah - the shit my folks talked about, I've lived long enough to see it firsthand. McD used to be my go-to restaurant for 20+ years, but now, it's when it is the only place open.

I mean the income stagnantation is a problem yes, but holy fuck so is the price. I remember going on dates in the 2010s (their restaurant choice :p) and they'd order a 'mcgangbang', or two mcdoubles, a spicy mcchicken, and add a large drink, for $4. You can get just one of those items now for that price. That's insane.
