If I were JB Pritzker, I'd activate the Illinois State Guard. They need time to get staffed, trained, and procure equipment.
I'm wondering what will happen when a state's National Guard gets conflicting orders from the governor of that state and the US Executive Branch.
The national guard can be requisitioned by the federal government. However, the state guard (often trained by/alongside the national guard and sharing members) cannot. They only answer to the governor.
I know we all felt like it was wild when De Santis reformed the Florida State Guard. But now I feel blue states need to do it.
And some of them state guards are big.
