Yes, there were similar vulnerabilities found around 5 years ago, known as Meltdown and Spectre.

Yes. Meltdown and Spectre (twice) if not others.

The Register's article on the vulnerability contains more information about this, as well as what appears to be an equivalent problem that affects AMD processors.
