"Democracy Dies in Darkness"

But darkness is meaningless without light, so how do you get darkness? Obviously, by shining a light on other things. So, it actually makes a lot of sense for the Washington Post to have adopted this slogan, since apparently its goal is to shine a light on other things like culture wars, to give oligarchs the darkness they need to kill democracy.
