Last time Indonesia tried to do land reform the US couped Sukarno and triggered a purge that lead to the deaths of a million people.

I learned about it when I read The Jakarta Method, but yeah, that article seems to sum it up well. It was basically the dress rehearsal for Operation Condor - back the military as it purged the country of anyone sympathetic to the left to take over the government to stop democratic socialism.
Interesting this is happening in Indonesia at the same time as a new pink tide in Latin America. History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes. I hope democratic forces are ready to defend themselves.
