Usually what changes their tune is seeing that the majority of enlisted men below the rank of general are no longer taking orders from Trump loyalists. That will quickly change anyone's tune and is really the only chance left to stop all this in a sensible and non-violent manner at this point.

So brandishing arms isn't as necessary as respectable high ranking officers being let into the White House peacefully to take over, arrest Trump, then liase with congress on authorising and passing laws for a new election. However that much may be difficult given the current make up of the house and senate.

Still if they arrest enough of the people supporting Trump's attacks on the constitution, you may be left with a Democrat majority anyways. Someone would have to run the numbers on that before hand.

But it's more likely the military will fail their oath of protecting the constitution from enemies foriegn and domestic, and this train will just keep running towards a third term for Trump, or opening up the laws so Musk can be nominated President without an election. First foriegn born President of the US.

Then the death of American democracy will be complete and total. Maybe in a handful of decades we'll have a world police whose main job is to enforce global lawfare via force of arms. Who knows where the world will end up. Very different from this one, that's for sure.
