Or also on a related note, do not obey in advance. If they want to disallow peaceful protests, make them actually have to do it and don't just assume they will. Make them have to choose which fights they really want to have. They still changed course on a total funding freeze after enough pushback and after getting blocked in the courts. There is still fight left. Cynicism and dooming is what they want you to have.

Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.

The blitz of EOs and other unlawful/questionable acts is exactly what was meant by the current administration's "shock and awe" comment.
