Do I need to remove this excess thermal paste that squished out? Or can I leave it? (programming.dev)

Totally agreed. Most thermal paste is non-conductive, so it's not really an issue if it goes too far. However, if you ever use liquid metal, you have to be more careful

    The brand I am using is yeesterpaste. It was at microcenter. It has a little practice pad which was helpful. Turns out my gut feeling was not quite enough. But I may have been a little over zealous with the real one lol.
