Another day, another Lemmy post blaming leftists instead of Republicans, conservatives, racists, and their enablers.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well republicans, conservatives and racists are the minority. Had everybody left of them voted, the US wouldn't be on track to become a fascistoid autocracy.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

But everyone left of them didn't vote, and I think there are certainly more non-voting liberals than non-voting leftists, so focusing on an even smaller minority of Pro-Palestinian abstainers is silly.

Only 64% of the Voting Eligible Population turned out in 2024, what percentage of that 36% remaining do you really think is Pro-Palestinians that couldn't stomach Harris?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I know plenty of leftist who live in reality, understood reality, and voted realistically for an ally in the fight over the next four years.

And then there's fantasy leftists who do zero work, yell into their echo chambers, guard their fragile worldview from exposure to reality, and pretend they're doing anything to further the cause. Oh and they get mad, stamp their feet, and stay home instead of vote. Or worse, they're so far up their own ass they honestly think voting for the leopard is a good idea.

The one saving grace is that there aren't enough of them here to sway a dog catcher election, let alone a national one.

Right, so memes blaming them for the apocalypse is extra silly

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Memes are supposed to be. So, mission accomplished?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"it's just a meme bro it doesn't mean anything"

okay, at least you agree it is silly behavior

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh, don't misunderstand, it absolutely means something. Satire, political cartoons, parody, etc have been used for centuries to make a point. Memes are no different.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

it absolutely means something

So then why the deflection with "memes are supposed to be silly?" Obviously I'm referring to the meaning of the meme, passing it off as "just a meme" is intellectual cowardice.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Cartoons are cartoonish, satire is supposed to be satirical, memes are supposed to be memish, and for the most part that means silly

Are you incapable of this level of discourse? If I'm going to have to start posting articles about etymology you're probably gonna get bored.

I never said " it's just a meme " or any of those other things you're trying to cram in my mouth.

Before you can question the attributes of someone's intellect, you might want to actually have some for comparison.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

memes are supposed to be memish, and for the most part that means silly

Untrue, memes are just a pattern of information, they can be comedic, silly, satirical, anything. Silly is not a base component.

Are you incapable of this level of discourse?

Are you? I said the idea was silly, and you said that was doing its job because its a meme.

I never said " it’s just a meme " or any of those other things you’re trying to cram in my mouth.

"Right, so memes blaming them for the apocalypse is extra silly"

You replied with:

Memes are supposed to be. So, mission accomplished?

Before you can question the attributes of someone’s intellect, you might want to actually have some for comparison.

The absolute irony of this statement. Firstly, I was questioning your intellectual *cowardice* by being too much of a pussy to stand by your statements and instead say its okay to have silly opinions because the opinions were delivered by memes.

So maybe work on your reading comprehension before you want to attack someone's intellect.

You correctly identified a property I believe memes should have. You deserve kudos for operating at that high a level. I wish you well on your journey through senescence.

Another day, another commenter putting words into my mouth to make themselves feel better. No shit Republicans and the sycophant media are to blame, I blame them all the time. but the disingenuous "abandon harris" crowd sure didn't help either. You're welcome to keep ignoring context though, that's never stopped anyone around here before.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not instead of, but as well as.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It's not leftists' fault at all that a centrist party lost to a far right party. Please provide any proof whatsoever that it was Pro-Palestinian voters that caused Democrats to lose the popular vote, the electoral college, the house, and the senate.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

I'm not singling any "side" out as the culprit. It's always "this vs that" with everyone these days. Left vs right. Black vs white. No gray areas.

I'm blaming everybody who didn't vote strategically on Kamala to lessen the horrific effects on the whole WORLD this will have. Not that it seemingly has to make a difference, considering the American voting system is shite. Perhaps Trump was due to win regardless of the American people voting.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

It's the fault of everyone who didn't vote against fascism. That's how it works; if you are capable of voting for Kamala, but didn't, it's your fault Trump won.

Kamala was the vote in favor of Palestinians, workers, and domestic minorities. If you didn't spend about an hour to vote for her, that means you think all of those groups aren't worth an hour of your time or you're too stupid to figure shit out.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Hey, can we please stop lumping all leftists together with the idiots who refused to vote, or chose to vote for Trump?

Some of us understand reason.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's not blaming leftists. It's blaming people too fucking stupid to vote.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

Do you have any facts that show it was Pro-Palestinians that failed to show up? Instead of America just wanting the reactionary populism?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

There's plenty of blame to go around.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

and their enablers.

That's what's being done in this post

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Hating statistically irrelevant leftists is counter productive.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's not really about the impact they have, it's about the flaw in logic they have.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So why use them as an example of the flawed logic that all non voters have?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why do you focus on leftists often?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ah, i misread your comment

Then in response to the previous one, I would say they're just a prime example of flawed logic.

asking why be upset with them when there's other people to be upset about is just whataboutism

Like yes, all those others are also bad. Doesn't mean I'm gonna cut them any slack.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

asking why be upset with them when there’s other people to be upset about is just whataboutism

I don't think so, many people didn't vote, and leftists are an extreme minority in this country, so it's certainly a choice to focus on them and not all non-voters.

Like yes, all those others are also bad. Doesn’t mean I’m gonna cut them any slack.

Who's saying anything about cutting slack? Yes all non-voters are to blame, but the meme is about Pro-Palestinians causing the apocalypse, not non-voters.

It's not whataboutism to ask why one focuses intensely on a small minority, when you admit that the problem is beyond that minority.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

A small vocal minority that spurred apathy.

They are sanctimonious while being one of the many architects of our crumbling level of control in our democracy.

Are they a minority? Maybe but US elections are won and lost on an increasingly small number of constituents.

That being said I dislike all forms of non-voting but at least I might be able to convince them.
