People obviously realised how bad things were and voted him out the 2nd time.

People have such short term memory... they vote on what will benefit them now with no cause for thought on the overall picture.

It's been an issue in Australia in the past too.

They vote on what they think will benefit them now. But yes, they seem to have completely forgotten how terrible things were during his presidency. They just want something different, no matter what it is. If Darth Vader came down and said his new Death Star project was going to stimulate the economy, they'd vote for him.

Honestly, this entire year of elections globally has been "things are shit and we want change". If the LDP and the ANC could fall in Japan and South Africa respectively, the Dems were always gonna be fighting massively uphill even if the US does have a better economy than most countries rn.

Yeah, it's happening all over the world. AfD in Germany, for example, is gaining a lot of traction when last time they were dismissed as kooks. Not a coincidence that the world leaders excited about a Trump presidency are the usual suspects.

France, Japan, UK, South Africa, Canada and Germany looking dicey like you said; Modi basically, as well, and Taiwan only survived cuz of vote splitting. People just want change.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Hell, I want change too. So why would I elect the same dude again?

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

cuz the guy in charge right now is the Dem. :/

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

Exactly. It doesn't really matter who the candidate is - for a lot of people the cycle is to just elect someone from the other party every 8 years because the economy isn't fixed.
