November 1, 2024

  • Brush: AP Shave Co Strawberry Cream 26mm G5A

  • Razor: C.V. Heljestrand MK 31 11/16 Söderfors Extra Specialstål Full Hollow

  • Lather: The Cajun Blade - Wild Oud - Soap

  • Toner: Thayers - Lavender - Toner

  • Aftershave: Unilever - Brut - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I told myself that after 3 solid months of straight razor shaving, it was time to visit my safety razor selection. But when the time came to shave this morning, the idea of choosing a razor, choosing a DE blade, unwrapping it, and installing it in the razor seemed like a lot to do. So I went with the MK 31 Söderfors which is a magical razor. It's BBS November, so maybe I can get it together to have a safety razor shave for my second luxury shave today.

Wild Oud is made by The Cajun Blade; a friend with a similar channel to mine on YouTube. He is a jack of all trades and in addition to his many other pursuits, he makes shaving soap. In particular, he renders his own beef tallow for his soap, and I could tell that he is not shy with the percentage of tallow he uses in his recipe. The lather is dense and creamy and takes water very well. Very easy to dial in for a shaver who is particular about lather hydration. Although the recipe is simple, the proportions produce a soap that, at the moment, I consider top-tier.

The Wild Oud fragrance is not dank in the way some ouds can be. Instead, it is woodsy in the way you smell the scent of fallen trees in a forest. The scent strength is on the mild side of medium.

Sounds like interesting soap. I had a chance to try a "homemade" shave soap once which also only had a few ingredients. I was similarly impressed with it.

Yes, this one might make an interesting BVWSC soap.
