The AMX 10 was designed to kill insurgents in civillian cars in Mali and the Ivory Coast. It has a high reverse speed because youre supposed to run away once they bring up anything serious.

According to the French defence ministry, AMX-10s offer protection against light infantry fire.

Lol

"There was artillery shelling and a shell exploded near the vehicle, the fragments pierced the armour and the ammunition set detonated."

Lmao

I'm guessing these things are getting shredded by WW2-era AT rifles?

Fun fact! (Which I'm sure you knew already, but some folks may not) There's Soviet machine gun (which is still in use) - KPV (or KPVT for vehicle mounted version). It uses the 14.5 mm ammunition that was originally designed for the aforementioned WW2 WT rifles. Except now it's a machine gun with machine gun fire rate.

How tf is it even considered a tank it's an apc with big gun

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml -1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

it's offically classified as "tank", undoubtly for padding French egos and pockets of manufacturers, but it's hard to really classify because it's essentially heavy armored car with really huge cannon for this kind of vehicle. Closest analogue would be tank destroyer/recoinessance vehicle.

The vehicle replacing AMX10 in French army looks like that, so even they considered that gun to be too big:
