I think it means lives, as in you don't eat a whole pig but if you have some bacon that could come from one or more pigs that have had to be murdered for you

I know, but I'm afraid pointing out the obvious offended one of the mods :/

Less dead animals is better, but it's not like we're wasting an entire pig for a single slice of bacon
