yeah, one of the main complaints my parents' generation had about the warsaw pact times was that they couldnt travel as easily.

nobody ever talks about how poor people cant travel even now, in this supposed freedom...

Never travelled on my own dime in my adult life and I'm mid 30s. I often can't afford to even travel to see family unless they live within a few hours of me. Have been saving up to travel for years now.

yeah, capitalism managed to somehow externalize this too. it's not the government stopping you, it's just a maaaagic force field, called money.
