I found this article in a comment (from user britinsb) made on an article in "The Verge".

It is interesting how history repeats itself and how Reddit administrators could get into further trouble by forcing moderators to moderate subs in their own way.

I was just telling someone else there was literally a legal precedent for this, and that the mods actually may have a case. This wasn't even the case I'd been referring to, but AOL had been doing basically everything reddit's done with the exception of providing perks.
