Maybe you're right about Elden Ring, I don't know how hard it is or anything because I've never played it. But I don't think that everyone is facing the same challenge. People who don't play this type of game often are facing a bigger challenge than people who do. I think it's sensible to have different difficulty levels to mitigate the difference in experience. If the developer doesn't want to, of course that's their decision, but I don't think that that decision is unassailable.

Yeah everyone is gonna have a different degree of challenge because of their own familiarity and skill level, I meant more that it is the exact same game at the exact same difficulty setting for everyone. FromSoftware games rely a lot on overcoming challenges and the feeling that comes with that.

Knowing everyone else have the same settings across the board and struggle some way or another justifies their design choice in my eyes. It is very efficient in making you feel like you are truly getting better, progressing and that you are overcoming impossible walls.
