If you have an issue with Knuckles's character being Flanderized, that doesn't really have anything to do with Elba's performance.

Knuckles has always been dumb. His introduction in StH3 was about Robotnik tricking him into thinking Sonic was trying to steal the master emerald.

The times that he's appeared the dumbest were the more comedic character-driven stories, not something specific to Knuckles.
