TORONTO (May 9, 2025) – Lee Stecklein led the Minnesota Frost to a 5-3 win over the Toronto Sceptres Friday night at Coca-Cola Coliseum, scoring two goals and adding an assist to help even the series at 1-1. The Sceptres took a 1-0 lead after the first period, thanks to a goal from Hayley Scamurra, but Stecklein’s two goals, along with a tally from Michela Cava, helped Minnesota storm back with three straight goals in the second period to make the score 3-1. Toronto responded with a quick two-goal burst from Savannah Harmon and Allie Munroe just 27 seconds apart in the final minutes of the frame, tying the game at 3-3 heading into the third period. However, it was Toronto native Sophie Jaques who scored the game-winning goal for the visitors at 13:47 of the final frame, while Mellissa Channell-Watkins added an insurance marker to seal the win. Maddie Rooney earned the victory in her first start of the series, making 27 saves, while Kristen Campbell stopped 20 shots for Toronto in the loss.

LAVAL, QC (May 8, 2025) – The Ottawa Charge won the first playoff game in team history, skating to a 3-2 victory over the Montréal Victoire in Game 1 of the PWHL Playoffs, presented by SharkNinja, on Thursday night at Place Bell. Shiann Darkangelo scored the game-winning goal, breaking a 2-2 tie midway through the third period, to give the Charge a fifth straight road win and an early lead in the best-of-five series. The top ranked Victoire, who opened the playoffs at home for the second straight season, have yet to win a playoff contest through four all-time games, including three at Place Bell. Captain Brianne Jenner opened the scoring on the power play at 4:54 of the first period to give Ottawa their first of three leads in the game. Montréal forward Maureen Murphy evened the score with her own power play goal at 12:13, making it 1-1 going into the second period. The teams traded goals in the middle frame, first by Ottawa’s Ashton Bell at 5:07, followed by Victoire captain and regular-season goal scoring leader Marie-Philip Poulin with the team’s second power play goal of the game, at 7:12. The Victoire outshot the Charge 33-27 but couldn’t find a winning answer against red-hot rookie Gwyneth Philips, who recorded 31 saves in her playoff debut. Ann-Renée Desbiens stopped 24 shots in her fourth career playoff start. The series continues on Sunday afternoon at Place Bell.

TORONTO (May 7, 2025) – Julia Gosling scored twice in her playoff debut, leading Toronto to a 3-2 win over Minnesota in Game 1 of the PWHL Playoffs, presented by SharkNinja, on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Coliseum. The rookie struck twice in the second period, just 1:55 apart, including a power play goal that stretched Toronto’s lead to 3-0. Captain Blayre Turnbull opened the scoring at 11:59 of the first period to give Toronto a 1-0 advantage and the Sceptres carried that lead into the intermission, outshooting Minnesota 12-6 in the opening frame. Gosling’s pair of second-period goals gave Toronto control before Minnesota began to chip away. Rookie Britta Curl- Salemme got the visitors on the board at 13:56 of the second to make it 3-1, and Minnesota carried momentum into the third after killing off a five-minute major penalty late in the period. Katy Knoll scored at 2:33 into the third period to pull Minnesota within one, but Toronto held firm the rest of the way to preserve the victory. NEWARK, NJ (May 3, 2025) – Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice to lead Montréal to a 3–2 win over New York on Saturday at Prudential Center, cementing first place in the standings and top seed for the PWHL Playoffs. First-place Montréal, finishing the season five points ahead of second-place Toronto, will select its semifinal opponent between third-place Ottawa and fourth-seed Minnesota tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET, live on a special edition of Jocks in Jills on thepwhl.com and the PWHL’s YouTube channel.

Poulin opened the scoring just 11 seconds into the first period — setting a new PWHL record for the fastest goal to start a game — with the first of her two goals, giving Montréal an early 1-0 advantage. Less than four minutes later, Catherine Dubois doubled Montréal’s lead to 2-0 heading into the second period. Poulin extended Montréal’s lead midway through the second period with her league-leading 19th goal of the season, marking her second of the game and fifth multi-goal performance of the year. Trailing 3–0 in the third period, New York attempted a late comeback, with Sarah Fillier scoring on the power play at 2:39 and later assisting on Alex Carpenter’s goal at 19:43 — a point that pulled Fillier into a tie for the PWHL scoring lead with Boston’s Hilary Knight, who was held pointless today. However, New York couldn’t find the equalizer before the final buzzer. Victoire goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens tallied 27 saves on 29 shots, earning her league-leading fifteenth win of the season, while New York’s Abigail Levy recorded 25 saves on 28 shots in just her second start of the season.

LOWELL, MA (May 3, 2025) – The Minnesota Frost got the regulation win they needed to secure a berth in the PWHL Playoffs, exploding for an 8-1 win over the Boston Fleet, eliminating the home team from playoff contention at the Tsongas Center on Saturday. Earlier in the day, the Ottawa Charge defeated the Toronto Sceptres, 2-1 in overtime, to lock up third place. The defending Walter Cup champions scored early and often, beginning with a goal by Britta Curl-Salemme at 2:23 followed quickly by a Lee Stecklein strike at 3:08. The goals, scored 45 seconds apart, are the fastest in team history. Kendall Coyne Schofield made it 3-0 later in the first period before the middle frame saw goals by Sophie Jaques and Curl-Salemme with her second to make it 5-0 after 40 minutes. In an attempt to generate offense, the Fleet pulled their goaltender midway through the third period but surrendered a pair of empty-net goals to Brooke McQuigge and Jaques shorthanded. Jessica DiGirolamo scored the Fleet’s only goal to cut the deficit to 7-1, then, Klára Hymlárová made it 8-1 with the team’s record third power play goal of the game, tied for most in the PWHL this season.

Nicole Hensley stopped 29 shots for her seventh win of the season and third in as many starts. Aerin Frankel made her first start for the Fleet following Women’s Worlds and was pulled after allowing three goals on 10 shots in the first period. Klára Peslarová allowed three goals on 15 shots in two periods of relief. Ottawa, Minnesota and Boston all finished the season tied with 44 points, with the Charge and Frost advancing over the Fleet by virtue of more regulation wins. First-place Montréal will select its semifinal opponent between Minnesota and Ottawa tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET, live on a special edition of Jocks in Jills on thepwhl.com and the PWHL’s YouTube channel.

TORONTO, ON (May 3, 2025) – Kateřina Mrázová clinched Ottawa’s first-ever playoff berth with a dramatic overtime winner, lifting the Charge to a 2–1 victory over Toronto on Saturday at a sold-out Coca-Cola Coliseum. Ottawa entered the game controlling its own destiny, needing a win of any kind to secure a postseason spot. The victory, combined with a Minnesota win over Boston today in regulation, locks up the third seed for the Charge in the PWHL Playoffs and extended their road winning streak to four games. The loss solidified the Sceptres’ second-place finish and snapped their two-game win streak.

After a scoreless first period, Sarah Nurse opened the scoring for Toronto at 12:15 of the second, beating goaltender Gwyneth Philips with a backhand-to-forehand move and firing top shelf. Less than a minute later, Brianne Jenner responded for Ottawa, finishing a backdoor play to tie the game at one. A scoreless third period sent the game to overtime, where Mrázová sealed the win on a two-on-one rush, firing a top-shelf shot from the slot for the game-winner. Philips stopped 13 of 14 shots for Ottawa, while Kristen Campbell made 19 saves on 21 shots for Toronto. First-place Montréal will select its semifinal opponent between Ottawa and fourth-seed Minnesota tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET, live on a special edition of Jocks in Jills on thepwhl.com and the PWHL’s YouTube channel.

OTTAWA, ON (April 30, 2025) – Minnesota needed a regulation win to stay alive in the PWHL playoff race and delivered a 3-0 shutout over Ottawa, backed by a 24-save performance by Nicole Hensley on Wednesday night at TD Place. The Frost are now just one point behind the fourth-place Charge with one game remaining in the regular season. The Charge entered the game with three straight regulation wins and needed just one point against the Frost to secure a playoff berth and were given every opportunity to capture it with a 30-save performance by Gwyneth Philips in goal. After a scoreless first period, Frost captain Kendall Coyne Schofield took a pass from Michela Cava from the side boards and fired a shot from the high slot that sailed past Charge defenders and through the legs of Philips. The goal, scored at 18:43 of the middle frame, came on Minnesota’s 17th shot of the period – tying a season high – and held as the game-winner. Lee Stecklein added a pair of third period goals, the latter into an empty net. Dominique Petrie had assists on the game’s first two goals. Both teams will play their final games of the regular season on the road Saturday with playoff berths on the line. Ottawa can secure the team’s first trip to the postseason with a win over Toronto, while Minnesota needs another victory and can clinch with a regulation win over Boston – the team they defeated to capture last season’s Walter Cup title.

TORONTO, ON (April 29, 2025) – Carly ‘CJ’ Jackson made it a night to remember for the sold-out crowd of 8,532 at Coca-Cola Coliseum, backstopping the Toronto Sceptres to a 2-1 shootout victory over the New York Sirens in the team’s Pride Unity Game on Tuesday night. The fan favorite turned aside 25 of 26 shots in regulation and overtime, then denied all four shootout attempts to earn the win in their first career start. The goaltending was equally impressive at the other end of the ice as Sirens rookie Kayle Osborne matched her career-high with a 34-save performance in the defeat. In the shootout, Natalie Spooner capitalized on both of her attempts to secure the win for the Sceptres. The only two goals in regulation were scored in the first period, with Daryl Watts putting Toronto on the board at 6:07, and Ella Shelton responding late in the frame at 18:08. With the victory, Toronto extended their home point streak to eight games and snapped a two-game losing streak. The Sceptres also kept first-place within reach and trail Montréal by three points heading into the regular-season finale. To finish first, Toronto will need a regulation win against Ottawa on Saturday and a New York win over Montréal in regulation when the teams meet in the league’s final game that afternoon. Despite the loss, the Sirens have collected a season-high 10 points of a possible 12 in their last four games.

LAVAL, QC (April 28, 2025) – Laura Stacey buried a one-timer on a pass from Marie-Philip Poulin with 43 seconds left in overtime to give Montréal a 3-2 victory over Boston on Monday night at Place Bell. The win snaps the Victoire’s two-game losing streak and extends their first-place lead to five points ahead of Toronto in the PWHL standings and assures them one of the top two seeds, giving them home ice advantage in the semi-finals. The third-place Fleet picked up a valuable point in the standings but missed an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth of their own and sit one point behind Toronto and two points ahead of Ottawa. After a scoreless first period, Jennifer Gardiner opened the scoring late in the second with a power play goal. The Victoire power play struck again at 4:48 in the third period when Catherine Dubois extended the lead to two. It was the fourth time this season Montréal has scored twice on the advantage in a game. The two-goal lead was short-lived when Boston snagged a pair of goals just 39 seconds apart – their fastest two goals of the season. First, it was Hannah Brandt with a shorthanded ‘jailbreak’ tally at 17:14, then rookie Hannah Bilka sniped at 17:53 to tie the game. The teams needed extra time for the fifth straight meeting with the Victoire prevailing for the third time against the Fleet in overtime. Ann-Renée Desbiens returned between the pipes for the first time since March 18, making her sixth straight start against the Fleet and earning her league-leading 14th win by stopping 27 of 29 shots. Klára Peslarová made 33 saves on 36 shots, making her second career PWHL start following her first career shutout. Montréal can clinch first place if Toronto loses to New York on Tuesday, and Boston can clinch a playoff berth if Minnesota does not beat Ottawa in regulation on Wednesday. Both teams will play their final regular season games on Saturday.

SAINT PAUL, MN (April 27, 2025) – Corinne Schroeder stopped all 33 shots she faced to lead New York to a 2-0 victory over Minnesota at Xcel Energy Center on Sunday afternoon. The Frost came out firing to open the game with 17 shots on Schroeder in the opening frame alone, but were unable to beat the Sirens’ goaltender, who won her previous start before the break by a 1-0 score over Montréal. New York limited Minnesota to only three shots on net during a five-minute major penalty in the second period, swinging momentum in the Sirens’ favor. Taylor Girard then capitalized on the energy shift four minutes after returning to even-strength with her first goal of the season to give the Sirens a 1-0 lead. After a back-and-forth third period with the Frost trying to find the equalizer, Paetyn Levis buried an empty-net goal to seal the win for the Sirens. In her 18th start of the season, Maddie Rooney turned aside 19 of 20 shots between the pipes for Minnesota. While New York was officially eliminated from playoff contention yesterday, they picked up three ‘Draft Order Points’ with the win. Meanwhile, Minnesota remains four points behind fourth-place Ottawa in pursuit of one of the league’s two remaining playoff spots with two games remaining in the regular season.

LOWELL, MA (April 26, 2025) – Klára Peslarová turned aside all 29 shots in her first career PWHL start to backstop Boston to a 3-0 shutout victory over Toronto at the Tsongas Center on Saturday afternoon. The win ends the Fleet’s stretch of three consecutive regulation losses and brings them to within two points of the second-place Sceptres in the standings with two games remaining for both teams. The Sceptres, who missed an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth needing just one point in today’s game, have lost two straight decisions for the first time since their final two games in January. Lexie Adzija opened scoring with a goal scored backdoor off a pass from Jamie Lee Rattray on the team’s first shot, just 2:35 into the contest. Hannah Brandt extended the lead to 2-0 by sneaking in a backhanded shot from the top of the crease after receiving a nice pass from Megan Keller at 11:47. Theresa Schafzahl rounded out the scoring by capitalizing on a feed from Rattray on a power play rush with just six seconds remaining in the second period. The teams played a scoreless third period, with Toronto firing 10 shots on Peslarová in the final frame in their push to find some offense. Kristen Campbell recorded 12 saves on 15 shots and is just 13 saves away from 1,000 for her career.

OTTAWA, ON (April 26, 2025) – Ashton Bell stole the show Saturday afternoon, scoring the game-winning Jailbreak goal with just 13 seconds left to lift the Ottawa Charge to a 3–2 win over the Montréal Victoire in front of a sold-out crowd at TD Place. The game drew 8,576 fans — the largest crowd at TD Place in team history. With the win, Ottawa extended their winning streak to three games, matching their season-best (Dec. 29–Jan. 7) and pushing them four points clear of fifth-place Minnesota in the standings, and two up on fourth-place Boston, who are in action against Toronto this afternoon.

Bell scored two of Ottawa’s three goals, including the opener at 10:38 of the first period. Brianne Jenner made it 2–0 at 13:55, but Montréal responded late, with Anna Wilgren cutting the lead to 2–1 with 22 seconds left in the first. After a scoreless second period, Catherine Dubois tied the game six minutes into the third with an unassisted effort. The game seemed headed to overtime until Bell’s long-range shot from the point, while shorthanded, deflected off a Victoire skater and found the back of the net at 19:47. Gwyneth Philips made 25 saves on 27 shots for Ottawa, while Elaine Chuli stopped 24 of 27 for Montréal.

According to various reports, the PWHL's first ever expansion franchise will be announced next week. That team, as reports state, will be heading to Vancouver, British Columbia.

Vancouver's The Province was the first to report that an expansion team is heading to the city. According to a press announcement by PR firm LBMG, a press conference involving local government and "key stakeholders" is scheduled for next Wednesday in Vancouver.

The Province also reported that the new Vancouver franchise is likely to play at the Pacific Coliseum.

Opened in 1968, the historic Pacific Coliseum was the original home for the NHL's Vancouver Canucks until 1995 when the team moved to the new Rogers Arena.

The PWHL visited Vancouver this year as part of their PWHL Takeover Tour playing in front of a sold out crowd of 19,038 at Rogers Arena. It was the top attended game at Rogers Arena this season, exceeding home attendance for the NHL's Vancouver Canucks as well.

Vancouver was home to a professional women's hockey team for three seasons from 2000-2003. The short lived Vancouver Griffins were part of the original NWHL and featured Olympians Cammi Granato, Shelley Looney, and Nancy Drolet.

Speculation has also continued that a second expansion franchise may be headed for the West Coast with Seattle the likely location.
