ST. PAUL, MN (May 26, 2025) – The Minnesota Frost earned their second-straight Walter Cup title with a 2-1 overtime win over the Ottawa Charge in Game 4 of the PWHL Finals, presented by Scotiabank.

Liz Schepers was the overtime hero for the Frost as she netted the championship winning goal for the second year in a row, sending a roaring crowd of 11,024 fans to their feet at Xcel Energy Center. After a scoreless first period, Minnesota took their first lead of the series with a goal from Kelly Pannek midway through the second period. As Ottawa pushed to stay alive in the third period, Tereza Vanišová found the back of the net midway through the final frame to tie the game at one, forcing overtime for the fourth straight game in the PWHL Finals. It took 12 minutes of overtime action for the Frost to bury the game-winner and secure their second Walter Cup.

Maddie Rooney made 33 saves in her fifth consecutive postseason win between the pipes for the Frost, tying the PWHL record for most wins in a single postseason, alongside Boston’s Aerin Frankel from the 2024 PWHL Playoffs.

Ottawa’s Gwyneth Philips was voted the recipient of the Ilana Kloss Playoff MVP Award as she led all goaltenders with a 1.23 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage through eight playoff starts. The Charge rookie posted four postseason wins, including one shutout, and did not lose a game in regulation throughout the playoffs. Philips made 33 saves in Game 4.

The Frost hoisted the cup in front of a home crowd for the first time, after last season’s victory came on the road at a sold-out Tsongas Center in Boston. Minnesota finished the regular season in the fourth and final playoff spot – clinching on the final day of the regular season – tied with Ottawa at 44 points in the standings. The Frost earned a 3-1 semifinal series win over the Toronto Sceptres to secure a PWHL Finals berth for the second year in a row. Ottawa took Game 1 of the PWHL Finals, before Minnesota went on to secure three consecutive overtime victories on the way to the championship.

OTTAWA, ON (May 22, 2025) – Britta Curl-Salemme scored late in the third period and again in overtime to lift the Minnesota Frost to a 2-1 series-tying win over the Ottawa Charge, silencing a sellout crowd of 8,206 fans on Thursday night at TD Place. The score remained scoreless for most of regulation until Jocelyne Larocque broke the deadlock at 17:25 of the third period, giving Ottawa the lead. With 15 seconds left in regulation, and the Frost pressing on a power play with their net empty, Curl-Salemme scored the equalizer to send the game to overtime. While both teams traded chances in extra time, it was Curl-Salemme who struck again––scoring with less than four minutes left in the first overtime frame–– to lift Minnesota to the win. Maddie Rooney made 37 saves on 38 shots in her third win of the postseason, while Gwyneth Philips turned aside 22 of 24 shots in her sixth start of the postseason. The loss was Ottawa’s first in four games on home ice this postseason.

OTTAWA, ON (May 16, 2025) – The Ottawa Charge clinched their spot in the PWHL Finals with a 2-1 win against the Montréal Victoire on Friday night in front of a roaring crowd of 8,011 at TD Place, winning the best-of-five semifinal series 3-1. Ottawa native Rebecca Leslie put the Charge on the board early, burying a rebound off a two-on-one shot from Anna Meixner just two minutes into the game. The score remained 1-0 through the end of the second period, before Emily Clark doubled Ottawa’s lead just 31 seconds into the third period. Now needing at least two goals to keep their season alive, the Victoire continued to apply pressure in the third period, and Maureen Murphy eventually found the back of the net with five minutes left in the game to cut Montréal’s deficit in half. While the Victoire pushed to tie the game with a sixth attacker on the ice, Ottawa netminder Gwyneth Philips stood tall, finishing the game with 19 saves to backstop Ottawa to their first-ever PWHL Finals berth. Montréal goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens stopped 21 of 23 shots in her seventh career playoff start.

The Charge will face off against the Minnesota Frost in the PWHL Finals, presented by Scotiabank, as the Frost look to defend their Walter Cup title. Game 1 will take place on Tuesday at TD Place.

Last night while watching the Frost/Sceptres game I updated the community logo, it now displays the 4 primary colors of the team in the play-offs. Shortly after uploading it though the Sceptres were eliminated. I will leave it until we know who the other team going to the finals is.

I am looking for ideas for the community banner, I am thinking a stripe with the primary color of each of the current 8 teams. If anyone has an idea that would also showcase other women’s hockey I am open to suggestions.

SAINT PAUL, MN (May 14, 2025) – The reigning Walter Cup champions will return to the PWHL Finals as the Minnesota Frost defeated the Toronto Sceptres 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday night at Xcel Energy Center to win the best-of-five semifinal series 3-1. Taylor Heise scored the overtime winner at the 16:00 minute mark of the extra frame, securing a Frost victory over the Sceptres for a second straight playoff season. Minnesota was the lower seed in both series and eliminated Toronto last season in five games. The Sceptres opened the scoring at 5:28 in the first period with a goal from Julia Gosling on the first shot of the game. Hannah Miller extended Toronto’s lead at 10:33 of the second period but, just 14 seconds later, Frost captain Kendall Coyne Schofield got the home team on the board— the shortest span between goals in PWHL history. Kelly Pannek tied the game at 18:48, sending the teams into the third period locked 2-2. Emma Maltais regained the lead for Toronto just 58 seconds into the final frame, only to see Minnesota battle back once more with Coyne Schofield’s second of the game at 8:33. The Frost’s top line accounted for 16 points in three straight wins and had six points tonight, with Coyne Schofield’s two goals, two points for Heise, and a pair of assists by Michela Cava. Nicole Hensley returned to the Frost crease for the first time since Game 1 and turned in a 26-save performance in the win. Carly ‘CJ’ Jackson stopped 22 shots in their playoff debut —just their second start of the season.

Minnesota will defend their title against the winner between the Montréal Victoire and Ottawa Charge. Ottawa leads the series 2-1, with Game 4 of the PWHL Playoffs, presented by SharkNinja, set for Friday.

OTTAWA, ON (May 13, 2025) – Gwyneth Philips stopped all 26 shots she faced and Mannon McMahon scored the game’s only goal to lift the Ottawa Charge to a 1–0 win over the Montréal Victoire on Tuesday night at TD Place, giving Ottawa a 2–1 lead in the best-of-five series. The game—which was the first home playoff game in Charge history––opened with two scoreless periods, as both teams traded chances in pursuit of the game’s first goal. Then, at 8:42 of the third period, McMahon buried a rebound off a Gabbie Hughes shot to give her team the lead in front of a roaring home crowd of 7,282 fans. The Victoire battled to find the equalizer in the game’s dying minutes with an extra attacker on the ice, but they failed to capitalize as Philips stood tall to backstop her team to the victory. Victoire goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens stopped 24 of 25 shots in her sixth career playoff start. The Charge have now won three straight home games at TD Place over the Victoire this season.

The Charge look to secure their spot in the PWHL Finals, while the Victoire will look to stave off a semifinal elimination for the second season in a row in Game Four of the PWHL Playoffs, presented by SharkNinja, on Friday at 7 p.m. ET at TD Place.

LAVAL, QC (May 11, 2025) – Catherine Dubois was the quadruple-overtime hero for the Montréal Victoire, firing the game-winning goal to beat the Ottawa Charge 3–2 and end the longest game in PWHL history at Place Bell on Sunday. Her goal at 135:33 secured the Victoire’s first-ever playoff win, evening the semifinal series against the Charge at one game apiece. In a goaltending duel, Ann-Renée Desbiens earned her first career playoff victory, making 63 saves on 65 shots for Montréal, while Charge rookie Gwyneth Philips turned aside a career-high 53 of 56 shots.

In a game that stretched over five hours, the Victoire wasted no time opening the scoring. Kristin O’Neill gave her team its first lead of the series within three minutes of the opening faceoff. Laura Stacey then doubled Montréal’s advantage midway through the second period, giving the Victoire a two-goal lead heading into the final frame. After a back-and-forth third period as the Charge pushed to stay in the game, Aneta Tejralová found the back of the net with less than five minutes remaining to pull Ottawa within one. Charge captain Brianne Jenner then buried the equalizer with 42 seconds left in regulation to send the game into extra time.

The game needed an additional 75 minutes of overtime play spanning across four periods to reach its conclusion. Both teams had significant chances to end it earlier, including unsuccessful 5-on-3 power plays for each side during the marathon overtime sessions. The Victoire and the Charge traded sustained pressure throughout the extra frames, with Montréal recording 33 shots and Ottawa firing 32 shots in the overtime periods alone. It wasn’t until Dubois’ winner deep into the fourth overtime that the deadlock was finally broken.

Game Three of the best-of-five PWHL Playoffs, presented by SharkNinja, is set to take place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET at TD Place in Ottawa.

The Sceptres took a 1-0 lead after the first period, thanks to a goal from Hayley Scamurra, but Stecklein’s two goals, along with a tally from Michela Cava, helped Minnesota storm back with three straight goals in the second period to make the score 3-1. Toronto responded with a quick two-goal burst from Savannah Harmon and Allie Munroe just 27 seconds apart in the final minutes of the frame, tying the game at 3-3 heading into the third period. However, it was Toronto native Sophie Jaques who scored the game-winning goal for the visitors at 13:47 of the final frame, while Mellissa Channell-Watkins added an insurance marker to seal the win.
