I Hate Linus Tech Tips (thelemmy.club)
submitted 13 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) by WizardArtsPropaganda@sh.itjust.works to c/ihatethisthing@sh.itjust.works

He is one of the scummiest tech influencers around. He was great at the start, but as time went on, he became increasingly worse. As his channel grew, he started focusing far more on 'entertainment' while neglecting actual, useful information.

I'm sure everyone knows the controversies about him and his channel, but I'll still talk about them.

He and other massive YouTube channels sponsored Honey, a malicious extension. He knew that the extension was suspicious but said nothing for so many years; he just stopped sponsoring it. Massive thanks to MegaLag for talking about this extension, here's the link.

There are a lot of errors in their benchmarks. Gamers Nexus made an amazing video about this and other issues. They have so many errors because the testing is rushed. This is mainly Linus's fault, as he forces his team to produce a massive amount of content just to make more money.

The reviews are biased. It's clearly biased because the company that sent the product also sponsored them. Not only do they have to sign NDAs in order to review products before they hit the market, but they also have an incentive to speak positively so the company doesn't blacklist them in the future. I know that almost every big YouTuber does this, but I don't think they should, and it doesn't result in a fair review.

He didn't want to increase his old friends/employees pay or solve their complains, saying that's how capitalism works.

He bought a private jet. A lot of his employees are poorly paid, and some of them barely get by. On top of that, he tries to justify it by saying that he got the plane for '$0' and that it's actually cheaper using his 'girl math.' In reality, that plane costs an average of $6.6M to purchase, plus $1.5 million to $2.5 million annually in operating costs.

He has many more problems and controversies. I don't know how he has so many 'fans' and why people still watch and support him. He's a scummy, narcissistic, and greedy person, creating videos where he forces his underpaid employees to work on his home.

I Hate Celebrities (thelemmy.club)

Some of them get treated better than some royalties in the past. They get payed a shit ton of money for so little while teachers barely make something and people are more likely to trust what Kim Kardashian (as an example) says over teachers, doctors and scientists.

They also get get special treatment and are less likely to face prison time or get arrested than a "regular person" over the same things.

They fly private jets while they say that we should use paper straws to save the planet. Personally I don't like 99.99% of their "art", but hey that's just my opinion, some people love paying half of their salaries in order to watch Justin Bieber react to some YouTube videos, or donate money Scamatology. Source. Justin Bieber made $10 million from that event, more than the school teacher will make in their life times.

I hate reddit (thelemmy.club)

I hate that is filled with bots and a lot of garbage and brain dead content from tiktok, instascam and fakebook where videos have added music for some reason with crappy edits where they have to "jingle keys" so they won't lose interest. A lot of people post content without a source "Source!? My dreams bro, that's the source" and karma farm, or posts that are clearly fake rage baits and now they combine all of it with AI to create the ultimate slop.

And on top of all they ban and shadow ban accounts without a reason while actual bots get a pass.

A couple of more reasons on why I hate reddit:

  1. It's centralized
  2. It has lots of bots and owners take no action
  3. Lots of creeps and owners take no action
  4. They can ban your account for any reason
  5. They push ads
  6. They train AI models on our content without giving us anything
  7. They removed free API access
  8. Their app is garbage and so is their website
  9. They can remove and reassign subreddit moderators
  10. They added karma points
  11. Lots of stupid achievements
  12. Non-bot new users get easily banned for being suspected as a bot while actual bots pass
  13. Their support is garbage
  14. They don't listen to the users
  15. Garbage algorithm for recommendations
  16. Shitty owners
  17. Garbage Reddit filters that shadowban
  18. Terrible app/website settings
  19. Added awards that cost real-life money
  20. They sell our data for money
  21. They don't care about fake information and AI content
  22. Limited settings for subreddits
  23. Reddit Premium
  24. Avatar customization that costs real-life money
  25. Limited accessibility for disabled people (there were apps that were accessible, but they charged money for the API so they shut down, and Reddit didn't implement those features)
  26. AI search in Reddit
  27. Ads disguised as normal content
  28. Buggy app/website
  29. Pushing games
  30. Lack of new features
  31. Private messages can be read
  32. Specific content can be deleted without reason and removed without prior notice
  33. Personal data is used for automated decision-making, profiling, or AI training
  34. Personal data is used for advertising
  35. Data may be processed and stored anywhere in the world
  36. The stupid "Join the most real place on the internet" banner on the website that appears if you aren't logged in
  37. Reddit moderators (most of them)
  38. Reddit's garbage rules
  39. A lot of reposts
  40. A lot of AI posts
  41. They remove my comments without a reason
  42. Reddit bots
  43. Changing the UI often and mostly for the worse
  44. The owners are greedy bastards
  45. A lot of the community is garbage and supports a lot of AI slop content and/or fake information
  46. Hard to get API access
  47. They don't center my PFP, those bastards
  48. "We have encountered an error" — WHICH ONE?
  49. Automatically saving my comments or posts to drafts
  50. THEY KEEP CHANGING AND REMOVING STUFF FOR THE WORSE
