Lantidra is an IV infusion of pancreatic insulin-producing cells taken from deceased donors. An exciting first step. It won't be used widespread, but in instances of T1D with level 3 (severe) hypoglycemia, which is frequent blood sugars <54, this treatment may help reduce insulin dependence. Of note, it does require immunosuppression. There's another more detailed link here.

I realize this is a general “diabetes” community but I wanted to let people know that just as was done on Reddit, I set up a Lemmy community specific for people with type 1 diabetes (!t1diabetes). Like I did on Reddit, I am participating in both, but I know many of us found it helpful to have a community specifically for T1 as well as for other forms of diabetes.

Medicare capped the monthly price of insulin at $35 for all medicare patients. For commercially insured patients in the USA, you can use the coupon from this website to get $35 short-acting insulin like Humalog or Lyumjeg, and long-acting insulin like Basaglar (equivalent to Lantus). Learn more about this plan from Lilly Diabetes here.

If you'd rather use a non-Lilly insulin, Novo has a $99 monthly price of any combo of their insulins, such as Novolog, Fiasco, or Tresiba. Learn about the Novo program here.

If you do not have any insurance, most insurance companies have patient assistance programs that will significantly reduce the cost of insulin. Learn more about all the various companies patient assistance and coupon programs here.

I thought at the very least this would be a fitting first post for this community.
