The national housing agency says the seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts amounted to 242,195 units in March compared with 260,047 in February.

There are no consequences for landlords who break the rules. This will not end well, unless something changes dramatically - and soon.

Mississauga city council voted down a proposal on Wednesday that would have allowed fourplexes across the city but it decided instead to ask staff to consult on the feasibility of the idea and report back.

In a tie vote, council defeated the motion moved by Ward 2 Coun. Alvin Tedjo and seconded by Ward 5 Coun. Carolyn Parrish. The motion, which aims to address what is widely referred to as the "missing middle" of housing availability, called on the city to allow four units "as of right" in Mississauga. A fourplex is a residential building with four separate dwelling units.

Excluding gasoline, headline inflation would have been 4.0% in June, following a 4.4% increase in May.

Canadians continued to see elevated grocery prices (+9.1%) and mortgage interest costs (+30.1%) in June, with those indexes contributing the most to the headline CPI increase.

The all-items excluding food index rose 1.7% and the all-items excluding mortgage interest cost index rose 2.0%.
