Just when we thought Epic v. Google might be over, just one Supreme Court rejection away from a complete victory for Epic, both sides have agreed to settle Tuesday evening. And if Judge James Donato, who ordered Google to crack open Android for third-party stores, agrees to the changes, it might turn Epic’s victory into a lasting global one.

Previously, Judge Donato agreed to some of Epic’s biggest demands. He issued a permanent injunction that will force Google to carry rival app stores within its own Google Play Store, and give those rival stores access to the full catalog of Google Play apps, to restore competition to the Android marketplace. The injunction also forced Google to stop requiring developers to use Google Play Billing, after a jury found the company had illegally tied its app store to its payments system.

Nevada has agreed to pay $4.6 million to settle a lawsuit that accused prison guards of beating up a man and leaving him to die in 2023, a lawyer said Tuesday.

The medical examiner said Christian Walker’s death at High Desert State Prison near Las Vegas was natural and caused by heart problems. But the autopsy report showed that he had head trauma and other injuries to his torso, neck and extremities.

Walker, 44, was beaten twice within a short period after being transferred from another prison, the first time after a dispute about his personal possessions, said James Urrutia, an attorney for his family.

“There is absolutely no evidence that (Walker) had any heart disease, no issues at all with his heart," Urrutia told The Associated Press.

An email and phone message seeking comment about the settlement were not immediately returned by the Department of Corrections.

Rudy Giuliani has reached a settlement with Dominion Voting Systems in its $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit over his baseless 2020 election-rigging claims.

The two sides said in a filing in federal court in Washington, DC, on Friday that they have agreed to permanently dismiss the suit against the former New York City mayor and former personal lawyer to President Donald Trump.

The brief filing doesn’t cite the settlement terms. Spokespeople for Giuliani and the Colorado-based company said Saturday that the terms are confidential and declined to comment further.
