I don't even know if this is allowed here but frankly, I don't care. I have seen conflicting guides on how to play cracked games. Some say to use lutris/wine, some say to use proton with steam and add the cracked games to steam though that carries a significant risk of a ban. So to all Linux pirates, how do you do this?

I use KDE Neon on my laptop and I'd prefer to have KDE as a DE on this one too (if possible) but I don't mind a non Ubuntu base. Basically I'd just like to be able to play games on it without much hassle but I know how to paste commands into the terminal if the need arises.

What's new in this release:

I primarily use Gnome desktop (x11) with Ubuntu because I'm pretty comfortable with it, I like the minimalist, modern style, I enjoy the smoothness, and I don't feel like I need to customize everything. Plus, having familiarity with the desktop, out-of-box experience helps me when installing and reinstalling, which I do often because of work.

The issue with it, however, is I can't really play games smoothly on it, specifically Rocket League. On Plasma, I was able to achieve smoothness (not just high framerate, but also input -- erm, latency? lag? not sure the term here) by installing the liquorix kernel, using the proprietary nvidia drivers, and -- here is the key -- hitting Shift+Alt+F12 to disable with the compositor. After that, I get a nice smooth experience in Rocket League, which is essential since it's a game that is dependent on quick reactions and physics.

But with Gnome, there is no disabling the compositor this way. Supposedly Gnome handles this by allowing apps to bypass the compositor if they're in fullscreen mode, but it does not seem that Rocket League does this. I did set it to full screen, turned off the second monitor, but it still felt like there was a delay between when I pressed a button on the controller and when the car reacted. The framerate is still at 144, but its not playable with this amount of input lag. Honestly, feels kinda like if vsync were on. I did read that mutter forces vsync on, but not sure how reliable that is.

I don't mind logging out and switching my desktop to Plasma, but it would be nice if I could just stick with Gnome. I very much like how it handles workspaces, and yeah, I know I could probably configure Plasma to do somewhat of the same thing, but it just doesn't feel the same to me.

Anyone have RL running smoothly on Gnome?

Fedora workstation 42. Steam flatpak. Same behavior no matter which proton I use. 4090 using the rpm fusion team’s package

Behavior: I boot up. I fire off a game from steam flatpak. Game 100% worked fine yesterday. Today something updated, so I get “processing vulkan shaders” let it finish. Game starts - slow af. Game works, but it’s like the video card isn’t there, and the game is using my CPU’s integrated GPU (I literally think this is what’s happening). The settings are way too high so it’s a lag fest - if I turn them way down, everything is fine (at 320x200 LOL)

Ok so here’s the fix. I update the system. That’s it. Update, reboot, everything works perfectly. (Interestingly, vulkan shaders need to be processed again). My question is WHY? Shouldn’t I be able to not update and things still work? I’m not talking like I haven’t updated in years. Sometimes it happens within days. It’s not the end of the world - I was going to update anyways - but it’s annoying.

Any thoughts on what to check and maybe tweak? Thanks.

I'm having some trouble getting my first party Wiimote Plus to connect to my Linux Mint laptop via bluetooth. I can get Blueman to say it's connected, but the sync button keeps flashing on the remote until i disconnect it, and it's not recognized by AntiMicroX, jstest-gtk, Retroarch, Cemu, or Super Smash Flash 2.

I've looked at WiiCan, wiimote-pad, and MoltenGamePad, and i can't figure any of those out. I installed xwiimote and xf86-input-xwiimote but they didn't seem to change anything.

Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong here or have experience getting a Wii remote to connect to Linux (ideally with a working nunchuk)?
