13000 verified steam deck games and about 11000 switch games.

Also, there are about a billion toms that work perfectly on the stream deck.

And even if they don't work out of the box, it's often just a matter of the controller configuration that hasn't been done yet, which doesn't take a long time to make either.

...and quite few of those that are even exclusive to the Switch, can still run on Steam Deck.

Damn, had no idea the switch had so many, kinda impressive for a console

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

I wonder how many of them are legit games and how many are just some crappy thing that hardly qualifies as a game.

Probably about the same amount as Steam. There’s a lot of garbage on there too. It’s the nature of a widely accessible platform.

What’s probably more interesting about this comparison is how much console gaming has changed in recent years. It wasn’t too long ago that console game development had such high barriers to entry that it was damn near impossible to make a game outside one of the big studios. So much of the stuff on consoles now, including the trash, never would have seen the light of day before.

Let's be honest, most deck owners won't play more than ten games on their deck. And it won't be any of the thousand one star rated games on steam

Have you seen the RetroArch? I'm playing NES and SNES games on my SteamDeck and that's easily another couple thousand. Hehehe

You naughty boi

Not sure what you're getting at. Even if we go with your number, for many people, the 10 games they'll play will be different, which is where the wide selection comes in.

What I'm getting at is Nintendo has a higher bar for quality. Steam is just a huge tent.

Hmm, do games on the Switch have ratings?

Also, just because there are low quality games on Steam, doesn't mean that there are less high quality games on it that on the Switch. I'd be very interested in numbers to back a claim that there are more high quality games on the Switch than on the Steam Deck.

Also, how do you know Nintendo has a higher bar for quality? Could it be that there are less game developers for the Switch than for Steam?

You're being dishonest, I never said such a thing

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

So they should only make the ten games that you like?

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Huh? I have basically only used my steam deck while traveling, and I don't travel that often, and I've played easily 30+ games on there. There are thousands of games that are excellent on the hardware, I have no idea what you're talking about.

Most Switch owners won't play more than a handful of games, because every Nintendo game is priced at $60 in perpetuity.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

That's fair. I've checked out some games, but I haven't actually got started on any yet. I've had a switch in the past, I maybe played 7-8 games on it.

I don't think anyone really cares though. People buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games.

I own both. I prefer the switch to play games with my daughter. I'm also getting rid of the Steam Deck because I tend to only play casual games on it. I've now bought a gaming laptop (mainly for editing photos and recording music) which is a way better form factor for me. The Steam Deck is amazing though and I see how it is the perfect machine for many people.
