You will never see a more disgusting place than YouTube. An algorithm that pushes the most disgusting content like gore and trauma and the comment section of even the most benign video will have some chud shitting on feminists or whatever with a million updoots. Absolute shithole of a content farm website.

[Sexism] I was just watching a wholesome video of a rooster protecting the flock from a hawk, and the highest comment was like "Hurr duurrr I bet this triggers feminists seeing hens run in fear while the rooster takes charge."

Bruh, no, what is triggering is how illiterate misogynists are about the animal world. Imagine choosing hens as your proof that women are weak. Hens, the gender of chickens that also attack predators regularly. Hens, the gender of chickens that are where scientists came up with the term 'Alpha'. Hens, the gender of chickens that can literally change their gender.

link because I'm not a lib, this person deserves bullying tbh but I doubt it's worth wasting time on

And then, to top it all off, in the recommendeds was a thumbnail of a real picture of a squirrel gored up after being shot with a pellet gun, with the title "Watch this before YouTube deletes it" smuglord

So yeah, youtube is fucked up trash.

I disagree there's tons of good small youtube channels and places where the comments are way more normal and human-like than reddit tier dweebery and quips. There's basically like 1-2 good subreddits, but there are thousands of good YouTube channels

Sounds like you haven't been to the Steam Community Forums lately.

Look: I'm sure you've all seen at least one good Subreddit, or at least one good Youtube comments section, depending on the topic.

But in the past 10 years, I have never seen a single good Steam Community page, ever. Youtube and Reddit at least let the coherent comments with some measure of intelligence bubble to the top, but on Steam it's all garbage, all the time, up front and in your face, with zero moderation.

I use YouTube quite a bit, but exclusively for subscriptions, and I turn off watch history so my views don’t feed into the algorithm (allegedly).

"Hurr duurrr I bet this triggers feminists seeing hens run in fear while the rooster takes charge."

of course the one currently under attack is going to run away and the one not currently under attack will fight, that's like basic teamwork.

i completely agree. i keep getting horrific and violent video recommendations when i'm using the youtube search engine. it's genuinely making me too scared to look anything up anymore because it's so stress inducing.

yesterday i was looking up "kit cat clocks" because they're just cute but like five search results below was a horrible video with a "you might like this" tag whose thumbnail was

cw animal harm mentionof a person about to mutilate a cats tail with scissors.

like no i don't like this and i want it to fucking stop!!! i wish i could turn off the feature but i haven't found any way to do so.

There's a Firefox plug in to block the suggestions

I wanted to send a salute. o7

Has anyone else noticed that if you open YouTube in a private tab, there's no recommendations? It used to show you recommendations even if you weren't logged in, which usually had some reactionary shit. I wonder if they're trying to brush all that under the rug 🤔

Sucks that this type of content exists but I personally don't have much of an issue with it popping up in my feed. I think if you're just diligent about hitting the "don't show me content like this" button whenever you see it, the algo does an alright job of keeping it away from you.

But the comments, there's not much to do about that, but for whatever reason the channels I sub to don't seem to have too much of an issue with it.

We're doomed as a species, and social media just goes to show what people are like deep down. Please tell me that this is just a westerner 'global bourgeoisie decadence' thing.

Nahh thinking the world will end because of the Internet is Reddit as hell. We're not doomed, but once the fed-firewalls come down... Chaos Reigns

I retract everything and apologize.

Na its just selection bias. Only the most anti social noxious people have the maximal motivation to post. Like if the real world was as transphobic as the internet I would have been hatecrimed to a permanent end long ago. Yet irl I have literally had a single bigoted interaction in 4 years. Even more the majority of interactions where people specifically know i am trans have been overwhelmingly positive. Social media under capitalism is a disease, it encourages and monetizes the most awful and noxious aspects of humanity.

also birds are such a bad case to infer your eternal gender truths from

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

they're wrong on this one, but all other truths do in fact scientifically come from birds
