Ever since becoming disabled and being abandoned by all my so-called friends, my life has just consisted of going to medical appointments and then browsing the internet. Just doomscrolling reddit and similar places for hours as there is just nothing else to do when you have no money and can barely walk. And it's stressing me out and making my mental health even worse as I am constantly being bombarded with endless hate for the disabled, terrible news and all kinds of other stressful stuff. I would like to get off the internet, apart from talking to people here and doing necessary things.

Since I have such severe mobility issues I can hardly get out, so other hobbies are out. So I'd like to switch from reading the internet to reading books. There are books in this house but the problem is I am partially sighted since my stroke, and this is an old house with dim lighting which makes it hard to read. This isn't a problem online as I can increase the font size as much as I need to, and the screen is bright, but this doesn't apply to books. Reading glasses alone aren't enough. If I could buy one of those daylight lamps with a magnifier I'd be able to read books and get offline. There are some books in this house and my local library also has a "books on wheels" service where they deliver books to local housebound people.

There isn't much I can do to change my situation in life. I need to have cancer treatment for the rest of my life to stop it coming back, with all the horrible side effects that entails. I've had several years of physiotherapy since my stroke and am still in pain and can't walk properly. I worked during my cancer treatment for as long as I could until the side effects just became too severe and I had to quit, so I'm unable to go back into employment. I had several different kinds of therapy on the NHS and all were awful, none improved my mental health at all. I've done basically everything I can to try and improve my situation and nothing has helped. I've ended up trapped in a loop of doomscrolling and getting more and more stressed out by it. Switching to books would at least reduce these negative emotions and improve my mental health.
